The Community Economic Mobilization Initiative (CEMI) is a countywide grantmaking program to assist eligible organizations in building their knowledge and capacity to participate in upcoming local, state, and federal funding and planning opportunities.

CEMI is an innovative effort to advance equity, inclusion and the goals of federal and state climate-resilient economic development initiatives.

CEMI Grantmaking

In partnership with The Center at Sierra Health Foundation’s Community Economic Mobilization Initiative (CEMI), San Joaquin Community Foundation and Edge Collaborative are launching a $1.6M countywide philanthropic grantmaking initiative. There will be three grant funding opportunities over the next few months to support organizational capacity building, project development, and engaging community leaders in preparing for public funding opportunities.

Round 1 Capacity Building Grant Opportunity

Round 2 Project Development Grant Opportunity

  • Will focus on project development, meaning orgs/partners applying should have identified projects in line with the public funding opportunities available. The vast majority of the public funding opportunities released thus far focus on advancing inclusive economic development, equity, workforce/jobs, a green economy, and/or improving climate infrastructure.
  • More details to come in late 2023.
